Descripción de la Exposición
Mistake! Mistake! said the rooster... and stepped down from the duck. An exhibition by artists about and not about an author. The five artists - Gabriel Barbi, Ramiro Guerreiro, Ana Jotta, Euridice Kala and Simon Thompson - read and listen to the writer Hubert Fichte: his book Um amor feliz, the radio play Caparica, a Fishing Village, broadcast in 1967 by the Hessischer Rundfunk radio station in former West Germany, catalogues and other books from or about Fichte, and photo-films "shot" by Leonore Mau and "commented on" by the "ethno-poet" Fichte. Thoughts in space: through Fichte, we feel the world in a different way. Fifty-fifty, yes. An exhibition without qualities, a literary pose. The description of Portugal as an elevated form of the Fata Morgana, Portugal as a ceramic façade. The imaginary soundtrack of an exhibition: caricatures and poems on canvas or canvases turned into poems...
The writer and ethnologist Hubert Fichte (1935-1986) is considered an early source of inspiration for new disciplines such as Queer and Postcolonial Studies. In his work, economic criticism, (homo-)sexuality and self-reflection become methodological tools. The project Hubert Fichte: Love and Ethnology attempts to enhance awareness of his work by translating it into the contexts that Fichte travelled to with his life companion Leonore Mau. The project is launched with the exhibition Mistake! Mistake! said the rooster... and stepped down from the duck in the art space Lumiar Cité in Lisbon, while further exhibitions and events will take place at MAM – Museum of Modern Art in Salvador de Bahia and in Rio de Janeiro at the Centro Municipal de Arte Hélio Oiticica and the gallery A Gentil Carioca.
During several residencies in Lisbon, the artists Gabriel Barbi, Ramiro Guerreiro, Ana Jotta, Euridice Kala and Simon Thompson jointly developed a transversal exhibition for the Lumiar Cité space, curated by Jürgen Bock. Before the opening of the exhibition, the novel Um amor feliz by Hubert Fichte (Livros Cotovia, Portuguese translation by José Maria Vieira Mendes) will be launched at the Cinemateca Portuguesa-Museu do Cinema / Livraria Linha de Sombra with a presentation by the researchers Manuela Ribeiro Sanches and Diedrich
Diederichsen, moderated by Jürgen Bock. The launch will be followed by the screening of four photo-films by Hubert Fichte and Leonore Mau.
