Descripción de la Exposición
MIGRATORY at the Rubin Center will host Minerva Cuevas’ International Understanding Foundation, a conceptual structure highlighting solidarity networks and creative environments in El Paso and Ciudad Juárez. A fundamental part of this exhibition is the publication of the Migratory Yellow Pages / La Sección Amarilla de la Migración, a book aiming to provide information for human migrants to have a welcoming transit, filled with contributions by local and international artists, writers, and organizations.
A book presentation event will be hosted at Panadería REZIZTE in March 2022. The exhibition is co-curated by artists Lara Goldmann and Elizabeth Shores, and produced in collaboration with Edgar Picazo of the El Paso- Juárez-based non-profit Azul Arena.
Cuevas’s working methodology is always in direct engagement with the history and the communities in which she is developing her projects and showing her work. For the exhibition at the Rubin Center, the collective research began with a September 2019 visit to the border in which the artist and curators traveled around the border, meeting with artists and activists from both cities. This working methodology has been used previously by the Rubin Center, creating immersive, short-term residencies for exhibiting artists to introduce them to the US-Mexico border in the development of exhibitions and commissioned work.
