Descripción de la Exposición
As part of Our Ocean, Your Horizon, a proposal for the Satellite programme 2016 by Heidi Ballet.
In the work of Edgardo Aragón (Oaxaca, Mexico, 1985) the structures of power, violence and politics are addressed in recorded performances that are recreations of past events, freely mixing story lines from family history and political history. Describing his oeuvre, he says: “My work often evolves around how power from a higher level is used to segment a large part of the population.” His videos, serene in appearance, show scenarios formed by landscapes that in fact hide a political discourse. They develop narratives inspired by the everyday environment and harsh social realities, mostly of his home country Mexico. They become documents of mournful sensibility that use an eerie silence to bring awareness in a most piercing way.
Edgardo Aragón’s works have recently been shown, among other places, in the Jewish Museum in New York (2015); Contour Biennial in Mechelen, Belgium (2013); MoMA PS1 in New York (2012); Moscow International Biennial for Young Art (2012) and the 9th Bienal do Mercosul in Puerto Alegre, Brazil (2012)
