Descripción de la Exposición
Galeria Nara Roesler will be expanding its foothold in New York City by relocating from their current space in the Flower District on 28th Street to a gallery space on the Upper East Side. The Brazilian gallery, which has spaces in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, first arrived in New York in October 2015 and opened its New York Space in the Flower District making it the first Brazilian gallery to have a New York outpost. Now, the gallery opens the doors to its new 1,100-square-foot space on 22 East 69th Street on February 28, 2017 with an exhibition of works by Marcos Chaves.
The inaugural exhibition in the Upper East Side gallery will be Chaves' fourth solo exhibition at Galeria Nara Roesler, and his first in the New York. The exhibition will include photography, video and installations spanning from 1992 to 2017.
In September 2017, Galeria Nara Roesler's Rio de Janeiro location—originally opened in 2014—will also be moving to a larger gallery in Rio de Janeiro. Located at the Jockey Club in Jardim Botânico, which will be built by architect Miguel Pinto Guimarães, the space will open with a solo exhibition of works by Julio Le Parc.
"2017 will be another exciting year for us," said gallery owner and founder, Nara Roesler. "In 2015 we became the first Brazilian gallery to open in New York, and this year we will move and expand both our New York and Rio de Janeiro galleries. It is a testament to the vibrancy of the global art scene, and the talent of the artists who we exhibit."
About Galeria Nara Roesler
Galeria Nara Roesler is a leading Brazilian contemporary art gallery, representing seminal Brazilian and Latin American artists who emerged in the 1950s as well as preeminent mid-career and emerging artists who dialog with the currents put forth by these historical figures. Founded by Nara Roesler in 1989, the gallery has consistently fomented curatorial practice while preserving the utmost quality in art production. This has actively been put into practice through a select and rigorous exhibitions program created in close collaboration with its artists; the implementation and fostering of the Roesler Hotel program, a platform for curatorial projects; and continued support of artists beyond the gallery space, working with institutions and curators in offsite shows. In 2012 the gallery doubled its São Paulo exhibition space, in 2014 expanded to Rio, and in 2015 opened in New York City, continuing its mission to provide the best platform for its artists to show their work. In 2017, the New York and Rio de Janeiro gallery will move into new spaces. The New York gallery will move to the Upper East Side, and the Rio de Janeiro gallery will be located at the Jockey Club in Jardim Botânico.
