Descripción de la Exposición
Y Gallery is pleased to present the performance “Lineage” by Carlos Martiel in its space on May 1st, 2016 at 6 pm.
This project is based on the concept of “Blue Collar” or “blue-collar worker”, term used to name individuals that are in the lower level of business hierarchy. This notion is frequently used to refer to manual workers or labourers.
In “Lineage”, Martiel takes as a departure point his personal experience as an immigrant in the United States of America to address the racial origins of the term and the way it has evolved into the present. This work is also a critic to the current system of employment selection and to those class-related prejudices existing in the functioning systems of society, which determine the roll of the individual in the social and laboral hierarchy according to its biological characteristics and origins.
The performance will take place on May 1st, the Worker´s Day. Holiday celebrated in the whole world except in the United States.
