Descripción de la Exposición

The first large-scale Miró exhibition for Japan in 20 years. Born in Barcelona, Spain, the renowned artist Joan Miró (1893–1983) has garnered widespread fame in Japan and around the world alongside Picasso as modern masters of their art in Spain. Surprisingly, however, few people know that Miró's creative endeavors were underpinned by a profound knowledge of Japanese culture. His works have been exhibited in various sites in Japan since the 1930s, and a monograph about him was published in Japan in 1940 before any other country. In this way, Japan has kept a keen eye on Miró's activities since early in his career. Many of his famed works are housed at art galleries across Japan today, and his popularity shows no signs of fading. This exhibition spans from his early works that express the longing for Japan he felt in his youth, all the way through to his most famous creations, along with some works that are being shown in Japan for the first time, taking you in a deep dive through Miró's mutual affection with Japan. With Japanese handicrafts that were stored in his own studio, along with a wide range of materials documenting his exchanges with critic Takiguchi Shuzo, you can experience a new, multifaceted perspective of this well-known painter and his connections with Japan through some 130 artworks and other materials.
