Inspired by the life, work and world view of the late artist Alighiero Boetti (1940-1994), Inaspettatamente (Italian for unexpectedly) opens 11 November 2021, co-curated by Gregory Lang, as a preview to the official opening of Cloud Seven in February 2022.
Inaspettatamente features sculpture, painting, video and mixed media, 250 artists including Cory Arcangel, Kader Attia, Mirosław Bałka, Walead Beshty, Alighiero Boetti, Carlos Bunga, Julian Charrière, Mary Corse, Hanne Darboven, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Edith Dekyndt, Cristina Garrido, Theaster Gates, Shilpa Gupta, Roni Horn, Anne Imhof, Imi Knoebel, Kapwani Kiwanga, Gabriel Kuri, Alicja Kwade, Richard Long, François Morellet, Jonathan Monk, Roman Opalka, Damián Ortega, Claudio Parmiggiani, Analia Saban,Tomás Saraceno, Katrín Sigurdardottir, Wolfgang Tillmans, Lawrence Weiner, David Wojnarowicz and Héctor Zamora.
In the exhibition, a dialogue emerges between Boetti and the living artists present in the de Collection that echoes conversations around seriality and processes, order and disorder, and experimentation with different modes of production; either in a direct thematic connection or on a more intuitive level.
Among other themes, the show gathers artworks that explore time, duality and otherness, and the artist’s position in the world with geopolitical reflections that consider the current state of our uncertain times.
