Descripción de la Exposición
Renata Morales has an interest in the layering of both the conscious and unconscious information we consume daily. Her presentation at Dallas Contemporary will be a year-long, multimedia project in which Morales will create a multi-chapter, immersive narrative which will include an installation of over 700 drawings and ceramic works in varied sizes, which will continue to evolve throughout the year. The exhibition marks the artist’s first-ever solo museum exhibition.
Renata Morales has worked for the past ten years in a variety of creative design and artmaking endeavors. Her artistic interest lies in the search for identity and belonging through artworks investigating humanity and what it represents, from kindness to violence and our attachment to the environment seen through the eyes of how we were brought up or the lives we have lived so far. Interwoven with both historical and post-conceptual personal interpretations, she captures imagery that are unique decisive moments. Uplifting, banal or horrific, Morales’ figures, forms and colors draw viewers into her works. Balancing and weaving her Mexican heritage within her practice, her interest in the grey area between Modernism and craft is the center of her creative practice.
Drawing from her experience with costume design and textile, Morales will create a limited drop of sweatshirts for Dallas Contemporary and a series of plates, produced by Ceramica Suro in Guadalajara by the museum and the artist that will be available for sale online and at the museum.
The exhibition is generously supported by Rodger Kobes + Michael Keller and LALO and is curated by Dallas Contemporary Executive Director Peter Doroshenko.
