Descripción de la Exposición
The Spanish artist and photographer presents the exhibition IN TRANSIT at the Modern Art Gallery of the National Society for Fine Arts in Lisbon. This marks the second time in two years that Gorospe has presented his work individually. Living in Oslo since 2015 and represented by Galeria NAVE since 2021, his photographic work has been exhibited at the invitation of numerous institutions in various cities, including the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Photo Festival of Oslo, and Cerveira Biennale, among others. At present, he is exhibiting at PHotoESPAÑA 2024.
Mercedes Cerón, the director of NAVE, is pleased to announce that the 31st of October will mark the inauguration of 'IN TRANSIT', the inaugural exhibition of the artist at the National Society of Fine Arts, an institution that is affiliated with RPAC - Rede Portuguesa de Arte Contemporânea. The Basque photographer presents a collection of works in Portugal as a part of his investigation into a particular trend. The research aims to extract and decontextualize fundamental elements of current architecture. The uniformity of the surfaces, the modular structures, and the grids are consistent in favour of an aesthetic of convergence whereby passers-by, those who walk, pass or stop in cities, stand out in an elementary way to identify, as they suspend the planes smooth.
Gorospes work has been internationally acclaimed on several continents for its ultra-contemporary approach to photography. The images displayed in the exhibition exhibit an open and ethereal narrative, yet it is evident that an attempt to domesticate outer space is evident in all of them. These efforts aim to trace and condense timelines in which contemporary urban landscapes collide with traces of the passage of time, resulting in a globalizing sensation in terms of geography and historical time.
