Lisson Gallery is delighted to announce an exhibition devoted to the work of Hélio Oiticica, one of the most innovative Brazilian artists of the 20th century, and recognised as a significant influence on the development of international contemporary art. Curated by Ann Gallagher, the exhibition is the first in London to survey Oiticica’s work since his 2007 Tate Modern survey show, The Body Of Colour, initiated by MFA Houston and curated by Gallagher for London. The Lisson exhibition includes early painted compositions, three dimensional works, film and a participatory environment, Nas quebradas (1979), which speaks to Oiticica’s engagement with the Mangueira Hill community in Rio de Janeiro.
