Descripción de la Exposición
Jupiter Artland Foundation, one of Scotland's most significant arts organisations, celebrate its tenth anniversary season which opens on Saturday 12 May. To celebrate the landmark moment, a solo gallery exhibition by internationally renowned artist Joana Vasconcelos will launch the season. In tandem with the opening of Edinburgh Art Festival, the second Jupiter Artland Campout will offer live music, performance and films. A publication looking back over the past 10 years, featuring never before seen imagery and essays by leading artworld voices, will also be released in July.
Portuguese artist, Joana Vasconcelos will present a solo exhibition titled, 'Gateway' (12 May – 30 September). Known for her large-scale surreal sculptures, Vasconcelos will display works throughout the indoor galleries at Jupiter Artland. Using various domestic objects, including plastic cutlery, irons, sanitary products and saucepans, she constructs stunning, playful, and direct images that reference socio-political topics addressing a variety of subjects, from immigration to gender violence. 'Carmen Miranda', a large-scale replica of a stiletto shoe, created using stainless steel pans and concrete will be located in the Ballroom Garden. The work addresses contrasting notions of femininity and gender through the use of the industrial-like materials. A similarly imposing sculpture, produced using knitting fabrics and techniques, to form the shape of a tea-pot, will be housed in the Steadings Gallery.
