Descripción de la Exposición
During his stay in Mexico the Colombian photographer Leo Matiz became friends of one of the most famous artist couple of the 20th century: Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. In between 1941 and 1943 he had the occasion to portrait them in their house in Coyoacan, Mexico City.
The exhibition “Frida Kahlo. Fotografie di Leo Matiz” presents 35 of these photos in different sizes. The mostly black and white images are showing principally Frida Kahlo. It was the time after her second marriage to Diego Rivera in December 1940, which was as troubled as the first one. In 1941 Guillermo Kahlo, her father, died. Despite of this sad loss, it allowed Frida Kahlo a greater economic independence. Together with artistic success this gave her more self-confidence.
Leo Matiz photos seem to witness this emotion. Compared to the 55 self-portraits where her expression is often sombre due to the accentuated eyebrows and inspired by her sufferings, here we see mostly a friendly and relaxed Frida Kahlo.
