Felipe Romero Beltrán wins Foam Paul Huf Award 2023
Felipe Romero Beltrán works on long-term projects that often spring from political tensions over borders and migration and return to the individual living body and its control. His work was chosen by an independent and renowned jury of industry specialists out of around 100 nominees. The Foam Paul Huf Award is presented annually to an upcoming photography talent to encourage photographers in their artistic development.

Felipe Romero Beltrán (1992) is a Colombian photographer based in Madrid, Spain. In 2010, he earned a scholarship in Argentina and moved to Buenos Aires to study photography. By that time, he had developed an interest in documentary photography and travelled many times abroad for his projects. In 2016, he moved to Madrid, Spain. He got a master's degree in photography. Felipe focuses on social issues, dealing with the tension that new narratives introduce in the field of documentary photography. At the same time, He is currently preparing a PhD dissertation on documentary photography at Complutense University of Madrid. His practice, characterized by its interest in social matters, is the result of long-term projects accompanied by extensive research on the subject. The photographer's work proposes an interpretation of historical and social concerns, approaching cases that relate to their personal background.

The Foam Paul Huf Award is an internationally acclaimed photography prize. It is awarded to artists whose creative vision speaks to our current time and makes a significant contribution to today's photographic community. The award is open to artists from all nationalities working in documentary, journalistic and fashion photography. The award is organised by Foam since 2007.
Selection criteria
Foam annually approaches around thirty nominators from various parts of the world to produce an internationally representative selection. Specialists and experts in the field of photography are each asked to select a number of talented photographers from their own region.
The prize can be awarded for any photography: documentary, journalistic, fashion, or independent work. The winner’s work must exhibit clear visual language and contribute significantly to today's photographic community in both form and content.
Jury 2023
Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger (jury chair) is director of the Finnish Museum of Photography and also founder and artistic director of The Festival of Political Photography. John Fleetwood is a curator, co-head of BA Photography at the KABK and director of Photo: in South Africa, a multifunctional platform for the development and promotion of socially engaged photography. Sunil Gupta is a successful artist and co-founder of the Autograph Association, an association dedicated to raising awareness of issues of race, human rights and social justice. Ashleigh Kane is Arts & Photography Editor at Dazed Magazine and has years of experience in talent discovery and mentoring. João Linneu is a designer, art director and co-founder of Void Photo Publishing House which specialises in photography books and education.
