LUNCH WITH DUCKS
Directed by Ivana Larrosa
(2015, 7 min, digital)
Larrosa cooks blind, talking not only about an event but the ways it reverberates throughout her life. Exploring identity through the body and its limits, Ivana Larrosa’s work investigates the impact of her permanent double vision and her experience of space consequence of a car accident. Larrosa embraces this disjunction in a spirited, playful way, finding eccentricity and humor. Her video performances move from trauma to the idea of an event as a cathartic and conceptual self-ethnographic landscape where the body is played against obstacles inside given parameters.
Synesthesia is a neurological condition arising from the interconnectivity of the brain’s sensory pathways. Those with the condition may smell sounds, taste shapes, or hear colors. This program invites the audience to experience these short films through synesthetic sensations while mobilizing emotions and memories. Addressing the corporeal and sensorial aspects of images and image-making,the goal of the program is not only to focus on the works’ literal relationship with the 5 senses, but to engage with the sensations in the body generated by the memories summoned by the images and to reflect upon their aesthetic qualities, geographic, social, and political context.
