Descripción de la Exposición

The perfumes in this exhibition are bottles full of poetry. Each recipe is a concoction that seeks to tell a story, aromas whose content is in cases dangerous and even deadly. Fixed on the Scent of Light takes as its starting point the perfume piece we saw in Sifre's first solo show at Roberto Paradise [This is terminating here (with you inside), 2011].

 

The Book of Scents is the backbone of this exhibition, a 52-page piece that is at once a poetry and a recipe book. Loaded with perfume formulas and musical poetry, it is to some extent about recovering the past. Two intertwined profiles with conjoined respiratory tracts take the shape a 2.5 foot diameter neon sculpture that bathes the entire gallery in hues of pink and blue. Titled Perpetual Renewal it is a tribute to shared rhythm and a longing for a synchronized experience. This exhibition is the result of Sifre's fascination with human relations, biology and art.

 

Chaveli Sifre (b 1987) lives and works in Berlin, Germany. Born in Würzburg, Germany and raised in Puerto Rico, she studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in San Juan. She has had notable participations at the NADA Art Fair Miami, Josh Lilley London, Mediamatic Amsterdam, Roberto Paradise Puerto Rico, Bienal Tropical del Caribe curated by Pablo León de la Barra and the The Dependent Art Fair NY, among others.
