Descripción de la Exposición
Wilfried Lentz Rotterdam presents “Film Stills from 214322”, a solo exhibition by artist Aimée Zito Lema (b. 1982, lives and works in Amsterdam). Presented in a grid along two large walls are a series of prints, still images taken from Zito Lema’s 2019 film work 214322. Part of her ongoing work with archival material sources, the print series is shown here in its entirety for the first time.
On Saturday 12 September – the first day of the show – we have extended opening times from 2-8pm. So that you can enjoy contactlessly and with peace of mind, time-slots can be booked by clicking here.
You can also visit the exhibitions at the two spaces that share our villa: CINNNAMON gallery and LIFE. A single reservation is for all three exhibitions. Time-slots are also available on the following Saturday 19 September, when CINNNAMON hosts an opening. Visits on other days during regular hours (Thursday-Saturday 2-6pm) no longer require bookings.
Zito Lema developed 214322 during her time as Artist-in-Residence at the Eye Filmmuseum in Amsterdam in 2019. In this time she investigated the borders of the museum’s archive creating a new work (film, sound and photography) from a selection of orphan, amateur and unidentified film materials. The work addresses concepts of classification, categorization, and selection.
Reflecting on archives as fragmentary cuttings of a possible world, 214322 explores analogue and digital processes of film making. Images are colored by means of tinting, a coloring technique distinctive of the silent cinema, and technical indications, in the form of punch-hole typography and Kodak edge codes, are made part of the film image in the form of animations. The title of the work 214322 refers to the catalogue entry of the work in the Eye collection database. The individual animations which are used for composing the film 214322 are in this exhibition produced as photographs, printed as inkjetprint on middle sized Hahnemühle paper, 40 x 55 cm and on occasion perforated with large holes.
Aimée Zito Lema studied at the University of the Arts (IUNA), Buenos Aires, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. She was artist in residence at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, 2015-2016. The dutch national newspaper NRC featured beginning 2020 her work as ‘talent for the years to come’.
