Descripción de la Exposición
KW Institute for Contemporary Art is pleased to be part of the large-scale, worldwide exhibition of the work “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner) by Félix González-Torres (1957–1996), hosting the presentation on behalf of the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Art while their exhibition spaces and offices in Washington DC and New York City (US) remain closed due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
Curated by Andrea Rosen, the exhibition brings together 1,000 international participants to reconstruct the largest version of the 1990 installation “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner) to date: 1000 places in one global site. At KW, 250 fortune cookies were piled in a corner of KW’s bookstore by Archives of American Art curator Jacob Proctor, who has been working remotely from Berlin throughout the pandemic. With the reopening of KW on 30 May 2020, the cookies will be available for visitors to experience and to take away as they wish. To interact with “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner) includes touching and consuming its individual parts—the work is thus in a state of permanent transformation, directly influenced by its visitors.
The remote international exhibition of “Untitled” (Fortune Cookie Corner) is a manifestation of institutional solidarity at one of the most challenging moments for the art world in recent history. Sharing spaces with one another in a time of need speaks directly to the ethics and the spirit of generosity that is essential to González-Torres’ work. KW will host the work from 25 May to 14 June 2020. The installation will then travel to New York and be reinstalled at the Archives of American Art from 15 June through 5 July 2020.
