Descripción de la Exposición
LUNDGREN GALLERY presents Luis Gispert's third solo exhibition with our gallery and in our space on C. Bisbe Moncadas 2, Palma de Mallorca.
Luis Gispert(b. 1972) creates art through a wide range of media, including photographs, film, sounds, and sculptures. His sculptures transform objects identified with urban culture—turntables, sports iconography, jewelry, and boom boxes—into functional designs usable in other manners, such as furniture or specific objects. The sculptures address the metaphysics of space and time and how objects and perceptions change when we move around them. Born out of research into subject matter that touches upon themes of the American popular imagination, class values, status-driven subcultures, art history and his Cuban American lineage, the sculptures ask questions about conspicuous consumption by accessorizing its relationships to psychoanalysis, the cult of authenticity and the theater of personal narrative. Luis works from the vivid pallet and rich ornamentation culled from an upbringing in Miami, Florida. For the exhibition everythingisokayitsokayitsokay Gispert introduces a new series of bronze sculptures. In these new pieces he explores ideas and stories that juxtapose the historical with the personal. The connections and conclusions drawn through the act of looking, processing information, and the seduction of aesthetics defy standard interpretation. The work does not dictate an agenda but rather offers a freedom to connect through associative perception.
