Descripción de la Exposición
Invited as artist in residence by RAC–Fundación Rosón Arte Contemporáneo in Pontevedra (Spain), the Peruvian painter Sandra Gamarra teamed up with curator Moritz Küng to realize a so-called site-specific exhibition construct. The show "Esquinas. Paredes. Suelos." (Corners. Walls. Floors.) essentially presents Gamarra's long lasting project "LiMac– Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Lima" and more particular its architecture in combination with some works from the RAC collection (by Thomas Demand, Imi Knoebel, Louisa Lambri, Sol LeWitt).
Sandra Gamarra initiated the Li-Mac museum and collection back in 2002 for which the Mexican Productora–architects designed in 2006 a project underneath the ground. So far, the Li-Mac remains a migrating museum without any physical building, but holding art works of prominent contemporaries, all of them appropriated by Gamarra in her genuine "painterly" make-over style. "Corners. Walls. Floors." present two spatial live size wall and floor mock-ups of the museum by means of stretched canvases, incorporating details (stains, shadows, holes, footprints) in Gamarra's painterly make over style. The superimposed representation of the LiMac here is less a fiction than a projection of a museum and rather a surrogate and “place-holder”. The extremely sparse and minimal looking installation finds its equal and climax in the artists' book (see below) that accompanies the exhibition. As a manual and matrix it forms an important key for the decryption of this exhibition construct.
