Descripción de la Exposición
Exposición colectiva: Nicolás Consuegra, Alexandra Noel, Bernardo Ortiz, Alexandre Estela, Rodrigo Hernandez, Amalia PIca, Pedro Torres, Equipe 3, Dina Danish. El que camina al lado Curated by Luiza Teixeira de Freitas and Claudia Segura From February 26th to April 30th, 2016 In his A Dictionary of Symbols, Juan Eduardo Cirlot said that the mirror “takes the mythic form of door through which the soul may free itself ‘passing’ to the other side” and also that “like the echo, it stands for twins”. And, indeed, mirrors show an image of what is projected onto them. It is expected that this image be faithful and true to the body that anxiously waits to observe it; perhaps with the same level of anxiety as the alter ego appearing in that image. Jorge Luis Borges said that everyone’s real doppelgänger is hiding behind the mirror: that self that we cannot deny, however much we insist; that self that simply ... exists without one being aware of it. It is a kind of replica, an individual that also inhabits the same city and lives a very similar existence though it remains detached from our everyday life. The copy, while admittedly unsettling, is at once something close and intimate, making an appearance in order to reveal some facet of our personality or reality that we need to know. The German word doppelgänger can be translated literally as “double walker” or “he who walks besides you”; a presence that is born from ourselves and is split from what we project. The exhibition presented at Travesía Cuatro is conceived precisely as a kind of replica, taking the form of an initial show at the gallery’s location in Madrid during the month of February and then a reflection of this inaugural image at the gallery’s other location in Guadalajara in Mexico some months later. In this way, time becomes a key factor in the creation of a double that gradually appears in the gallery’s two spaces as if we were dealing with a mirror. El que camina al lado (That one who walks alongside), is the first chapter in this sequence. The second part, Aquel que camina delante (That one who walks in front), will feature works by other artists which will present a new version of the narrative outlined in the preceding exhibition. Only one artist will appear in the two spaces, acting as both a bridge and a rope tying the two shows. *A publication in the form of an artist’s book will be prepared. El que camina al lado 26.02.2016 Artists (Madrid) Alexandra Noel, Alexandre Estrela, Amalia Pica, Bernardo Ortiz, Dina Danish, Equipe 3, Mateo López, Nicolás Consuegra, Pedro Torres, Rodrigo Hernández.
