Descripción de la Exposición
Campeche presents an exclusive screening of El Lado Quieto, a film by Carolina Fusilier and Miko Revereza (collaboratively know as Arquitectura Parlante).
Off the pacific coast of Mexico remains the island of Capaluco. Once a busy vacation resort catering to passing cruise ships, now empty of humans. A curious sea creature (Siyokoy) emerges from the water after traveling a strong current from the Philippines. The same current that connected the Spanish Galleons. The film navigates through the architectural remains of the island, interacting with the spectral sounds.
El Lado Quieto is a sensorial journey between life and decay through colliding mythologies, surveying the afterlife of a post-human landscape. The spectres of tourism emerge within the process of making the film. The filmmakers make audible their casual conversations in which they search for meaning and imagine different lifeforms of the future. It might be relevant that a pandemic was sweeping through the world throughout the film production. As a generation that experienced the false promises of progress and freedom, they also look into their own personal connections with the ruins of Capaluco: The collapse of the neo-liberal economy in Argentina and the failed American dream to a Filipino immigrant.
The film was recently included in Doc Fortnight 2022 at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York's Festival of International Nonfiction Film and Media in March 2022 and has also been screened at the Open City Film Festival, (London, UK), YIDFF (Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan), Dok-Leipzig (Germany), Black Canvas (Mexico City, MX), DMZ Docs (Korea), IDFA (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam), Camara Lucida (Ecuador), Pravo Ljudski Film Festival (Sarajevo), and True/False Film Festival (Columbia, Missouri, USA), BARQ (Internacional Architecture Film Festival Barcelona). It will also be screened in July, 2022 in Images Festival (Toronto, Canada).
