Descripción de la Exposición
El espejo [The Mirror] presents a complex spatial situation in which a group of new sculptures, produced by Rodrigo Hernández during a research and production residency at the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM), interact within a space covered by an immersive mural painting. This installation seeks to conjure up the encounter between two real characters—Verner Panton and Antonio Grass—and to suggest to the visitor a scene that blurs the limits between the pictorial and the sculptural, or between fiction and reality. The exhibition becomes, therefore, a situation that juxtaposes in a real area different spaces or places that are essentially incompatible; the result is a metaphor that proposes similarity or closeness between different objects and thus, has the capacity to reveal what is common between them.
The work of Rodrigo Hernández (Mexico City, 1983) is influenced by vocabularies from visual culture where he investigates the world of images based on aesthetic references from multiple historical periods and creative fields such as fashion, design, art, craft and ornament. Through traditional techniques like drawing, sculpture, and painting, he explores the way images are created and generates a singular language in which abstraction and figuration coexist.
