Descripción de la Exposición
In the hills around the village where the artist has his studio, a sound echoes beneath our feet, a presence felt as we walk.
At night, Paulo Brighenti and his dog named Safira, explore these paths, bend the night, double their attention, listening to the sound.
The village community attributes this feeling to the breathing of the earth, an ancestral belief says that something lives beneath the ground and guards the village at night.
We can hear this sound on Neil Young's guitar in the version he played live of the song "A Day in the life" by the Beatles, or in "Roots", a seminal album by the band Sepultura, or even in the work "Cântico dos Jovens" by the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, and we can also "feel" it in the poetic work "Noite de Pedra" by Luís Veiga Leitão, a political prisoner, who created and memorized the poems in prison during the dictatorship period in Portugal in the 1950s.
Paulo Brighenti brings this experience to his work, activating themes such as resistance, ecology, permanence of memory, with materials such as beeswax, linen, cement, copper, pigments, watercolors and oil paints, bending the night, prolonging the vigil.
