The annual award is given to creative talents across all areas of design including designers, curators, architects, and luminaries whose significant contributions to the field offer a tangible and lasting impact on the world around us.
The 2018 Design Miami/ Visionary Award is co-presented by Design Miami’s official university partner, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Following its debut at Design Miami, the exhibition will travel to SCAD Museum of Art opening in February 2019.
Fernández and Reyes’s exhibition encompass a retrospective of works that address some of the fundamental concerns of our time and facilitate intimate human exchanges that have become rare in this digital age. Key works on view include Reyes’s Metate chairs, Disarm (2008), as well as his textile works and the duo’s collaborative works.
Pedro Reyes has won international attention for large-scale projects that address current social and political issues. Through a varied practice utilizing sculpture, performance, video,...and activism, Reyes explores the power of individual and collective organization to incite change through communication, creativity, happiness, and humour.
