Descripción de la Exposición

DENVER, CO ̶ Opening in the Arts District on Santa Fe at Museo de las Americas (Museo), Colorado’s premier Latin American art museum, a new exhibition featuring objects from Museo’s collection and contemporary Costa Rican art breaks away from Costa Rica’s traditional, peaceful paradise label. “Costa Rica: Long Live Peace and Labor” will be on view from Thursday, September 14, 2023, to Sunday, January 28, 2024, with an opening reception on September 14 at 6:30PM. Museo's operating hours are Tuesday-Friday, 12PM-6PM, and Saturday-Sunday, 12PM-5PM. Executive Director Claudia Moran describes the exhibition as “a great opportunity for Museo to connect Costa Rican objects from our Ancient American collection to artists who represent a contemporary vision of Costa Rica, including its achievements and challenges.” Curated by Costa Ricans Mauricio Cruz and Maria Paula Morera Nuñez, the exhibition features six international artists and two artist collectives working in a variety of artistic mediums including fashion, sculpture, textile art, painting, photography, video, installation, and mixed media. These contemporary works will be displayed alongside Costa Rican artifacts from Museo’s collection, illustrating the breadth of Costa Rican art. Co-curator Morera Nuñez emphasizes this, stating that the exhibition pays “homage to the talent and dedication to the different art mediums.” Fellow curator Cruz, who has worked with many artists from diverse backgrounds, describes the artists as “having very strong points of view, and it’s amazing that we can celebrate their work.” Although Costa Rica is known for its anti-militarist stance and as a destination for ecotourism, its citizens also face social struggles not often realized outside the country. The artists and Museo’s collections unite to reveal Costa Rica’s historical spectrum. Museo invites you to join us in exploring the conflicting realities of Costa Rica through this thought-provoking exhibition. "Costa Rica: Long Live Peace and Labor" is a must-see for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of this beautiful and complex country. This exhibition is sponsored by the Tragen Family Trust, Alpine Bank; the Scientific, Cultural, and Facilities District; and Colorado Creative Industries/National Endowment for the Arts.
