Descripción de la Exposición
With the installation CORPS À CORPS, Miguel Rio Branco mirrors two emblematic series of his work, Blue Tango and Santa Rosa Boxing Club.
Since the 1970s, as a pioneer of color photography in Latin America, Miguel Rio Branco has focused on capturing bodies, male and female, their glory or their weariness, their modesty and their displays.
With Blue Tango, captured in 1984, Miguel Rio Branco records the movements of the young capoeira dancers of Salvador de Bahia, in an almost calligraphic composition. A few years later, he explores other dusky bodies in the famous Santa Rosa boxing club in Rio de Janeiro where amateur boxers from all walks of life, workers, men, women, street children, come to train.
With consistent delicacy, his gaze maintains his models' outlook: nothing is concealed. As he gets closer, his images become filled with a dreamlike quality, creating poetic images born out of the chaos of the world.
His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in key European and American institutions, including the Moma in New York, the Boston Art Institute, the Stockholm Kulturhuset, the Sao Paulo Biennial and the Museu de Arte in Sao Paulo.
