Fondazione di Sardegna and AR / S - Arte condivisa in Sardegna launch a new open call for artists, curators, students, and art professionals, open until August 31, to participate in CONTEMPORANEA - Sculptures and Places, an international symposium on sculpture that will take place in Tortolì, Sardinia, from September 24 to 26, 2022.
CONTEMPORANEA is the new program of Fondazione di Sardegna dedicated to the present creativity within the AR / S - Arte condivisa in Sardegna platform.
Through meetings, seminars, workshops, and exhibitions, CONTEMPORANEA, directed by Franco Carta, aims to offer opportunities for encounters and relationships, training and specialization, networking, and professional growth to new generations of artists, curators, and visual art professionals.
The first action of CONTEMPORANEA is Sculptures and Places, an international symposium, free for all participating people, which will be held from 24 to September 26 in Tortolì, Ogliastra.
Sculptures and Places is curated by Giuliana Altea and Antonella Camarda and features artists, art dealers, and curators to discuss the role and relevance of sculpture in contemporary artistic practices and its relationship with nature and the landscape, with the built environment and the public sphere.
Participating in Sculptures and Places are the artists Carmen Calvo, Mary Ellen Carroll, Emilio Isgrò, Adrian Paci, Bettina Pousttchi, Pedro Reyes, and Gian Maria Tosatti, the curators and museum professionals Kathy Alliou, Luca Cheri, Martin Engler, Luigi Fassi, Chiara Gatti, Mark Gisbourne, Elisa Linn and Lennart Wolff (KM Temporaer), Lucrezia Longobardi, Ruth Noack, the art dealers André Buchmann (Buchmann Galerie), Joanna Thornberry (Lisson Gallery) and Nerina Ciaccia (Ciaccia Levi), the director general of the Italian Encyclopedia Treccani Massimo Bray, the art editor Giuseppina Leone.
The symposium is an intensive course aimed at young artists, curators, and students invited to apply for participation no later than August 31, 2022.
The program offers ten scholarships awarded by the artistic directors and intended to cover the cost of living, with a participation share reserved for those born or resident in Sardinia.
CONTEMPORANEA - Sculptures and Places was also created to involve and raise awareness of the territories it inhabits. For this reason, the afternoon and evening meetings will be open to the public, strengthening the bond with the community and spreading the knowledge of contemporary art.
The project aims to propose Sardinia as a platform for discussion and production of contemporary art, supporting artistic research and the professionalization of the younger generations, developing an international network, and promoting intercultural and intergenerational dialogue for the cultural and social evolution of the territory.
Fondazone di Sardegna, based in Cagliari, pursues purposes of public interest and social utility. In particular, it promotes the socio-economic development of the Region of Sardinia by taking shareholdings in banking and financial companies operating in the area. It usually acts within the regional borders, but, exceptionally, it can extend its operations outside of them and even abroad. It pursues its aims, within pre-established sectors of intervention, through the assignment of grants or loans to projects and initiatives of others or through the promotion of its projects and initiatives in collaboration with other subjects.
