Descripción de la Exposición
Mobile sculptures move slowly and gracefully in intricate, precise formations, seemingly floating freely in the air. Circles, squares, lines, and triangles in metal or acrylic, suspended by barely noticeable nylon threads, create geometric choreographies based on mathematical algorithms. Elias Crespin’s subtle and hypnotically evocative works invite contemplation on form, space, movement, and time. Through continuous motion, apparently endless variations emerge. Shapes expand and fragment, only to glide together into coherent figures; chaos gives way to order, complexity to simplicity. The sculptures are controlled by a multitude of programmed motors concealed beneath the gallery ceiling.
Elias Crespin (b. 1965, Caracas) is based in Paris. With a background in software programming, he started working as an artist in the early 2000s. Today, his works have been presented worldwide, for example at the Cuenca Biennial, the Busan Biennale, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the ZKM in Karlsruhe, the Grand Palais in Paris, and UCCA in Beijing. Elias Crespin is one of only two living artists currently represented at the Louvre in Paris.
The exhibition Chronomorphosis is produced by Bildmuseet. It is the first presentation of Crespin’s work in the Nordic countries.
