Descripción de la Exposición
Kurimanzutto presents works by Carol Rama, Leonor Antunes, and Minerva Cuevas, together for the first time in an installation that features diverse works defined by their sculptural nature.
Carol Rama, a pioneer of Italian art across the twentieth century, softens bicycle tire pieces into forms reminiscent of the human figure, imbued with life-like dynamism against two-dimensional backgrounds. The shaped leather of Leonor Antunes’ work reflects an architectural approach to defining space, the materials taking on a corporal quality. Similarly, the rich texture of the crude oil that seemingly drips from the canvas in Minerva Cuevas’s work combines two and three-dimensional materials into a single work that engages the visual and the tactile with the political.
In their own and interconnected ways, these three artists explore varied media to express their research on the sculptural qualities of their materiality, showing a unity through their individual aesthetics.
