Descripción de la Exposición
Campos Penetrables is an affirmation of vital postures that end up being incardinated in the artistic structure. It is a celebration of love, a gesture of memory of a space-time that lives from the tempo of the heart, from the relationship between bodies, from the you, the me, the we. Of the couple’s relationship, the plasticity of life, of its emotional choreographies with the reciprocity of relational existential perspectives - of the observer and the observed. The title refers on the one hand to the location of the house-studio of the artist and her partner in Campos Mallorca, and on the other hand to the Penetrables by the Brazilian artist Helio Oiticica, whose main objective is to bring together art and life, together they act as a device of transformation providing an ‘experience’.
The exhibition revolves around a series of performative actions that the artist groups together conceptually in what she has been calling Perform to Transform, a selection of photographs and a large-format immersive video, documented by her partner in the course of her days in her home studio.
They are preparatory works, which show a way of embracing her artistic practice and make room for the plasticity of life itself; its changes, its cycles, its movement. One of the conceptual axes of his work is latent in them: the search for greater harmony and a stable unity between bodies and their environment, favouring the existential, emotional and affective dimension, the dynamism and physical interaction between the works of art and their public, and the element of direct experience of life (vivencia).
Beyond the problem of the image, the works are committed to experience, the participation of the body - both of the artist and of the spectator-participants - a vital need for de-intellectualisation, intellectual disinhibition and freedom of expression. More critical than they appear, the works respond to the hyper-productivity that infects everything, appealing to the humanisation of the movements of the soul, to vital processes, to the durability of time as opposed to the tempus fugit of western culture.
Susy Gómez leads us to examine something intimate in its entirety, like a flashback. “She shows us a kind of grammar of the everyday, a relational field, of observer and observed in a way where art and life love each other. It is not about a gesture of longing, it is about understanding it from our body, from a more holistic, non-verbal vision of being, as a place of recognition, memory and transformation”.
The artist does not understand the installation as an autonomous artistic genre but as an organising device that connects the different works that make up the exhibition: large-scale paintings, video, sculptural and photographic interventions, neon and drawings. It is an exhibition with a performative, immersive, emotional and corporal will, where the spectator can penetrate the field of the works, detonating them from the sensorial and experiential, bringing the experience up to date. In this way, Susy Gómez creates an experiential script for the tour of the exhibition, freely available to the spectator.
-------------------------------------
Susy Gómez (Pollença, Mallorca, 1964) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Palma de Mallorca. She began her training at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where she settled for three lustrums and found the right environment to develop her creative capacity. In the early 1990s she began to hold her first exhibitions, standing out as one of the most promising artists on the art scene at the time.
Using different media - sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, video and performance - this Mallorcan artist develops an autobiographical work in which everyday objects become metaphors: dresses, hearts, eyes, houses, flowers, boats, butterflies, chairs... Her work has been mainly constructed from a reflection on identity with the desire to explore the intersection between art and spirituality, social action and individual identity, appealing to the position occupied by the subject in the contemporary world.
For Susy Gómez, questioning the present, destiny, the meaning of life and spiritual ties from multiple spheres becomes an unavoidable vital need that leads her to reflect on realisation, decoding the different relationships that are established between the subject and the context in which he or she is immersed. This demonstrates a desire to show that there is not just one way of identifying things, but many.
On a conceptual level her universe not only demands a spiritual attitude from the spectators, but also demands an emptying of beliefs, the dematerialisation of the ego, personal history, responsibility for our own thoughts, feelings and actions, and invites the spectators to transcend the social mask, and discover their identity and the place they occupy in the collective and individual consciousness.
