Descripción de la Exposición
BoteroSutra, the first exhibition of Maestro Fernando Botero after his death, is an extraordinary display of the works of the Colombian artist. This last curated show by the Master features an assortment of never-before-seen artworks acquired by the gallery before his passing on September 15, 2023. The renowned and prolific artist completed his final sale with our gallery in his last days, leaving a profound and enduring legacy that inspires and captivates art lovers worldwide.
The exhibition is a rare opportunity to appreciate and admire the genius of Botero's creations. Visitors can expect to see a range of works that showcase Botero's unique style, characterized by voluminous figures and exaggerated proportions engaged in various acts of passionate contact.
Throughout his career, Botero delved into every aspect of the human anatomy, from portraiture to landscapes and everything in between. BoteroSutra is a significant experience for art enthusiasts to witness a body of work, as it reveals a side of Botero’s artistic survey and the evolution of an artist who spent his life exploring volume.
With his unique artistic style, Botero created a series depicting the millennial Hindu book Kama Sutra. The exhibition comprises fourteen erotic artworks, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures portraying couples in various intimate positions. These unique pieces are executed in oil on canvas, graphite, watercolor, marble, and bronze, continuing Botero's iconic imagery. The artist's exceptional skill is masterfully highlighted in the execution of the artworks, solidifying Botero's status as the world's most recognized artist of all time. Each piece is a testament to Botero's ability to combine artistic traditions with his unique vision, resulting in a stunning collection of artworks.
Botero once said about this erotic series, "I tried to be really subtle in my approach to the subject, and that's why you don't see the sex [organs] of the characters. Porn doesn't interest me, but this is definitely my most erotic work. They are some of my most technically complex works."
Gary Nader stated, “Botero's influence on the art world will live on, and his legacy will continue to be celebrated by art enthusiasts and scholars. We are honored to have had the opportunity to showcase his work, and we will continue to do so in the years to come as a tribute to his extraordinary genius and contribution to the world of art.”
BoteroSutra exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in contemporary art and the legacy of one of the greatest artists of the 21st century.
