Descripción de la Exposición
LUX presents the first UK solo exhibition by Franco-Brazilian artist Ana Vaz, who will show a new iteration of her ongoing project The Voyage Out in the context of LUX’s BL CK B X series.
The Voyage Out takes the toxic disaster in Fukushima as a synecdoche of the impending ecological disaster and the possibility of renewal. It presents an exhibition as an account: an ethnography of the future, an ethnography otherwise. Two years after the toxic disaster in Fukushima, a new island has emerged in the Ogasawara archipelago, in the far south of Japan. The Voyage Out stages, in a dreamlike and experimental form, the sensitive imaginary of these two places, and the way in which they compose a world crossed by the spectre of destruction and renewal.
Composed of a set of short films in 16mm, a radio series, videos, cartographies and conversations, The Voyage Out is conceived as an ‘archipelago’ of connected presentations, which will grow and develop with each exhibition iteration, bringing together different articulations between its elements and partners. The final incarnation of The Voyage Out will be a feature-length film produced by Olivier Marboeuf (Khiasma/Spectre productions).
A series of public events will accompany The Voyage Out at LUX, including a performance by Portuguese sound artist Nuno da Luz, a live reading with the artist and French curator Olivier Marboeuf, a screening of Vaz’s recent film works at the Whitechapel Gallery, and a Breakfast Opening during Frieze Week.
