Descripción de la Exposición Constantin Brancusi's L'Oiseau dans l'espace, or Bird in Space, from 1923 to 1926 is one of the most influential sculptures of the 20th century; some critics even consider it to be a revolutionary new beginning in sculpture and the origin of modernity. Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle has tested what would happen if this icon of modernity left its theoretical orbit and performed a hypothetical re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere at a speed ten times that of sound in a hypervelocity wind tunnel at the U.S. Air Force Arnold Engineering Development Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. Suspended in flight, Bird in Space at MACH 10 confronts the values of modernity with those of our own time. On the occasion of the exhibition, the fourth volume of the publication series of the Ernst Schering Foundation will be published with argobooks. It includes essays by David Familian and Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, Charlotte Klonk as well as Thomas Wagner.
