Descripción de la Exposición

Art Los Angeles Contemporary (ALAC), the International Contemporary Art Fair of the West Coast, returns for its ninth edition at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica from January 25–28, 2018. The fair offers an unrivaled perspective to the galleries and artists that define Los Angeles’ position in the contemporary art world. As part of the 2018 edition of the fair, ALAC is pleased to announce Banc of California as its official sponsor. Participants for the 2018 fair encompass local and international exhibitors, including numerous new galleries to the fair from Latin America and Europe. International newcomers include Galerie Antoine Ertaskiran (Montréal), Instituto de Visión (Bogotá), LAZY Mike (Moscow), Revolver (Lima) and Vigo Gallery (London). In its third year, the Freeways section returns with a unique roster of young galleries including AA|LA (Los Angeles), Club Pro (Los Angeles), Galerie Derouillon (Paris), M. LeBlanc (Chicago), Marinaro (New York) and Parker Gallery (Los Angeles). Longstanding participants return to the fair this year with presentations from galleries including Altman Siegel (San Francisco), Shane Campbell Gallery (Chicago), Ghebaly Gallery (Los Angeles), Jack Hanley (New York), Ibid (Los Angeles), David Kordansky Gallery (Los Angeles), Peres Projects (Berlin) and Vermelho (São Paulo). “As the international art community looks towards Los Angeles as a new global epicenter, it is essential to have an event that draws upon a comprehensive notion of the city,” said Tim Fleming, founder and director of Art Los Angeles Contemporary. “ALAC is a product of Los Angeles’ unique cultural community composed of an incredibly diverse array of artists, galleries, curators, institutions, collectors and enthusiasts. Entering its ninth year, ALAC continues to play host in a city that has emerged as a powerful cultural hub, as illustrated in the success of the Getty’s PST: LA/LA initiative, the constant growth of the gallery scene, and the recent inaugural openings of numerous institutions. “ALAC 2018 will specifically emphasize relationships between Los Angeles and other thriving art communities across Latin America, Asia, and Europe and how those relationships contribute to our city’s sociopolitical and aesthetic spectrum. Los Angeles is fully integrated into the worldwide contemporary art conversation, and ALAC looks to promote further growth, education and exchange." Alongside the 2018 edition of ALAC will be the special issue of the Art Los Angeles Reader, done in collaboration with the Mexico City-based quarterly publication Terremoto upon the occasion of PST: LA/LA. The issue considers the focus on Latin American and Latinx / Chicanx art throughout Californian institutions within myriad contexts, with contributions by leading curators, educators, artists and writers based both in Mexico and Los Angeles. The issue includes an artist commission by Mexican artist Carmina Escobar, instructing the reader how to turn the newspaper into a musical instrument. The Reader is published biannually and edited by Tracy Jeanne Rosenthal.
