Descripción de la Exposición
Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino is pleased to announce the opening of And Yet It Moves!, the gallery's first solo exhibition for contemporary kinetic artist Elias Crespin (b. 1965, Venezuela/Paris). The exhibition features six of his electrokinetic mobiles, suspended geometric structures whose sophisticated spatial fluidity is activated by mathematical algorithms designed by the artist, reflecting his years as an engineer and his engagement with the legacies of such Venezuelan kinetic masters as Jesús Rafael Soto and Gego. The exhibition is accompanied by a curatorial text written by Domitille d'Orgeval.
Domitille d’Orgeval notes, “Crespin’s mobiles, suspended in the air by invisible threads, are imbued with a rhythm like that of breathing. They reveal themselves to the viewer little by little, without any mechanical linearity but with a variety of surprising effects… Direct contact with Crespin’s work sees the viewer borne away by the slow, silent dance of electrokinetic mobiles whose incessant variations, exploring the imaginary dimension of our relationship with the cosmos, herald a truly poetic approach to space.”
Elias Crespin has been living and working in Paris since 2008. His works are represented in several institutions and museums, the most recent being, in 2020, the collections of the Louvre Museum and the Maison de l’Amérique Latine in Paris. His works are also in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH), Houston, TX, USA; Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection (CIFO), Miami, FL, USA; El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY, USA; the Latin American Museum of Buenos Aires (MALBA), Buenos Aires, Argentina; Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentina; and Das Kleine Museum, Weissenstadt, Germany.
