Descripción de la Exposición
Swimming Room references each geographic modification and architectural project incorporated into Governors Island since its contemporary settlement. For Ana Bidart, the cartography of the island and its historic blueprints overlap in an imagined ever-evolving graphic-memory. The blue-board on the floor of the room is a reference to blueprints as well as the water encompassing the island reflecting the sky above it. In her absence, the artist invites participants to engage with the island’s history through drawing with chalk-spheres a very distant and pacified memory from the civil war era canon balls that were unearthed on the island a few years ago.
Born in Uruguay in 1985, Ana Bidart lives and works in Mexico City. In 2018, at the casa Wabi residency in Oxaca, she started to develop a body of time-based site specific drawings. Bidart was also a recipient of a FONCA grant (Fondo Nacional Para La Cultura y Las Artes) in Mexico, she then received a Roberts fellowship for Escuela Flora Residency, FLORA ars+natura, in Bogotá, Colombia. Her work has been included in exbitions in New York, Mexico, Bogota and Paris.
