Descripción de la Exposición

Miami is a place where past, present, and future have been rendered by the proliferation of images. Here, advertising and architectural renderings converge into imaginaries that fuel real estate speculation, class divides, racial inequality, false centers, and shadow economies. An Image reflects on this process in order to reveal how images mutate, supplant, or intersect with reality and scale their effects across a gamut of impact zones and temporalities. Curated by Domingo Castillo and Natalia Zuluaga and featuring artwork, public programs, and films by: Thom Andersen, Armen Avanessian, Jonathan Beller, Enrique Castro-Cid, Sally Cruikshank, Black Radical Imagination (Amir George and Erin Christovale), Harun Farocki, Alan Gutierrez, (Human) Learning (Roxana Fabius and Federico Perez Villoro), Barbara Kasten, Oliver Laric, Deborah Levitt, Gerald Nestler, Suzan Pitt, Alan Poma, Lucy Raven, Oskar Schlemmer, Manuel Shvartzberg and The Otolith Group. Exhibition design inspired by an archival interpretation of Arquitectonica's Pink House. Soundtrack by Heinrich Mueller-Dataphysix. Film screenings in collaboration with the Miami Beach Cinematheque & New World Symphony, WALLCAST. The Program for Applied Artistic Research This fall, ArtCenter/South Florida also launches The Program for Applied Artistic Research: a platform that offers free seminars and open critique sessions led by a distinguished faculty of practitioners in the cultural fields and the social sciences. The Program is a forum for participants to engage in dialogue and develop research and projects that shed light on contemporary realities in the cultural sphere and beyond. For this fall's program, organized under the heading "Parallax Drift," faculty members micha cárdenas, Julia Morandeira Arrizabalaga, Victoria Ivanova, and The Otolith Group will run seminars exploring the intersection between art and the shifting landscape of border politics. The monthly sessions look beyond traditionally held notions of the political subject and instead consider shifting, alternate, or oft-overlooked positions from which to question the dominant economic, political, and social conditions that define much of our contemporary moment. Studio Residency Program ArtCenter/South Florida is launching a call for its 2017 Studio Residency Program. The residency program will offer free studio spaces at our Miami Beach location for up to 14 exceptional artists, curators, and cultural practitioners working in a range of disciplines. In addition to engaging with a community of artists, visiting scholars, and institutional partners in Miami, ArtCenter Residents are provided the space from which to research and develop their practice and are invited to actively participate in ArtCenter's programs such as The Program for Applied Artistic Research, public programming, and our community outreach initiatives.
