Violeta Maya's first solo exhibition at Alzueta Madrid Gallery.
Violeta Maya is a young Spanish artist based in Madrid working with color and abstraction. Her works are made using different types of pigments on canvas. Reminding us of a watercolor and, sometimes. of a subtle landscape. The artist has worked with this technique over the years. making it already her signature style and the way she copes with reality. The artist's work is about freshness and boldness in the artistic process. each stroke. each line is final and unique, marked on the canvas forever and capturing a moment in time, a moment that the artist felt at her studio and that will be forever present in the canvas. as a sort of photograph of a feeling.
Her color palette and inspiration are as wide as her interest in the Spanish culture. where she draws some of her titles from. The title for the exhibition, "No one asked me if I wanted to be born, but here I am anyways" represents Violeta's feeling of having been thrown into this weird world, and indicates what she does: this collection of paintings. that together act as a self-portrait of the artist at this specific space and time.
"For me. painting is a hyper-sensorial exercise. It is the way in which I concentrate my attention on the present moment. focusing on the textures. movements and rhythm of the brushstrokes. the way the paint expands on the canvas or the infinite sea of shades of the same color I can find. This way I manage, for a few moments. to abstract myself from life in a century saturated with images. information and productivity; as if it were a kind of meditation."
