Descripción de la Exposición
This 2024 will be a year of celebrations - the 50th anniversary of 25 de Abril and Galeria 111's60th anniversary, which continues with the dynamic spirit it has always had and incorporates young artists into its exhibition plan. Rui Brito is responsible for Galeria 111’s renovation, now operating in the space of Rua Dr. João Soares. Eighteen years after the death of its founder Maria Arlete Alves da Silva and Rui Brito continue to acquire works for the Manuel de Brito Collection. In January 2023, in the Campo Grande space, the CAMB (Manuel de Brito Art Center) opened, without commercial purposes, where the artworks of the collection are shown. The first exhibition was the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Mário-Henrique Leiria in which a substantial part of his estate was shown. The second exhibition was by Ruy Leitão, son of artist Menez, who died at the age of 26, 47 years ago. The two exhibitions had a large audience and excellent reviews, with Ruy Leitão's being chosen by the newspaper EXPRESSO as one of the ten best exhibitions of 2023.
The commemorative exhibition of these 60 years will be presented at CAMB (Campo Grande, 113) with more than two hundred artworks by almost all the artists who have exhibited at the gallery over these years.
At Galeria 111 (Rua Dr. João Soares, 5B) a tribute will be paid to two great artists, Lourdes Castro and Paula Rego, who showed their works at the gallery for half a century and who left us in 2022.
