Descripción del Premio
The International Center of Photography (ICP), the world’s leading museum and school dedicated to photography and visual culture, announced today the 2022 honorees of its annual Infinity Awards, the leading honor for excellence in the field. The 38th Annual Infinity Awards will be held on the evening of Monday, April 25, 2022 at Ziegfeld Ballroom (141 West 54th Street, New York City). This event is ICP’s largest fundraiser and benefits its full range of education and exhibition programs. This year’s in-person event will be the first since a virtual ceremony was held in May 2020.
“This year, we honor artists whose photographs focus on environmental justice, climate change, conservation, and related environmental issues – among the most critical concerns of our time and our future," said David E. Little, Executive Director of ICP. "We are proud to recognize the achievements of these talented photographers who create compelling images and stories that demonstrate that photography is among the most critical art forms of empowerment and catalysts for social change.”
2022 Infinity Award Categories and Recipients:
Lifetime Achievement: Sebastião Salgado
Art: Sky Hopinka
Emerging Photographer: Esther Horvath
Documentary Practice and Photojournalism: Acacia Johnson
The 2022 Infinity Award honorees in the Art, Emerging Photographer, and Documentary Practice and Photojournalism categories were chosen by a selection committee composed of David Campany, Managing Director of Programs, ICP; Clara Kim, The Daskalopoulous Senior Curator, International Art, Tate Modern; Eva Respini, Barbara Lee Chief Curator, ICA/Boston; and Dominique Hildebrand, Photo Editor, National Geographic.
The non-juried Infinity Awards were selected by ICP’s Board of Trustees to acknowledge major achievements in photography, and to honor Cornell Capa, who founded ICP in 1974 to preserve the legacy of “concerned photography”—the creation of socially and politically minded images that have the potential to educate and change the world. Since 1985, the Infinity Awards have recognized major contributions and emerging talent in the fields of photojournalism, art, fashion photography, and publishing.
The 2022 Infinity Awards Chair is ICP Trustee Diane Tuft. The event’s Honorary Committee members include Djeneba Aduayom, Sade Baderinwa, Alexandra Bell, Isolde Brielmaier, Kimberly Drew, Jess T.
