Descripción del Premio
For the first time, we are announcing an open call for 2019–20 Technology Residents. Our Technology Department encourages socially critical residents, engaging with emerging technology, who identify within the spectrum of artist and technologist. The department is comprised of two coworking labs at Pioneer Works and benefits from being situated within close proximity to other disciplines. The residency provides a materials stipend and consultations with experienced technical staff to assist in project development. Our application portal is open now through February 15, 2019. After a juried review, selected residents will be notified by March 1, 2019.
Current fall 2018 residents include Baseera Khan, Jen Liu, Nicholas Oh, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, and Jaimie Warren in Visual Arts; Meriem Bennani, Philip Birch, Dora Budor, and Smriti Keshari in Technology; and Matt Evans in Music. The Production Space is hosting Maria Antelman in conjunction with her current exhibition, Disassembler, at Pioneer Works made possible by the Onassis Foundation.
Founded in 2012, the Pioneer Works Residency provides free studio space for experimental and innovative practitioners in visual art, music, and technology, and is committed to supporting cutting edge contemporary work in all stages of progress from conception to final production. Residencies offer artists a unique, public-facing, and multi-disciplinary program that supports artists and creators from a variety of fields in research, production, and new hybrid forms of practice.
During their residency, residents have access to spacious light-filled studios, technology lab, music studio, darkroom, and science studios. Residents also have the opportunity to disseminate work via in-house publishing platform, Pioneer Works Press, to participate in public programs like Second Sundays, and teach adult education classes and community workshops. Access to this unique array of tools, opportunities, and interdisciplinary relationships is offered to deepen and expand each resident’s practice.
Pioneer Works is a cultural center dedicated to experimentation, education, and production across disciplines. Through a broad range of educational programs, performances, residencies, and exhibitions, Pioneer Works transcends disciplinary boundaries to foster a community where alternative modes of thought are activated and supported. We strive to make culture accessible to all.
