Kiki Mazzucchelli (São Paulo, 1972) is an independent curator and writer working between London and São Paulo. She holds an MA in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College and is currently a PhD candidate at TrAIN (University of the Arts) researching exhibition histories with a focus on Brazilian art.
Kiki is the curator of Mythologies/ Mitologias at the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo in 2013. Other recent curatorial projects include Beyond the Avant-Garde/ Bienal Naïfs do Brasil (SESC Piracicaba, 2012) and the series of radio programmes OIDARADIO Conversations developed for the 30th São Paulo Bienal with Mobile Radio and Resonance.fm (2012). In 2009, she curated Jonathas de Andrade s solo exhibition Tropical Hangover (Galeria Marcantonio Vilaça, Recife) and an exhibition-in-print project for the magazine Carnation (São Paulo). In the same year she was awarded a two-month International Curator residency from the Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño (Bogotá, Colombia). Recent curatorial projects include the group show Looks Conceptual or How I Mistook a Carl Andre for a Pile of Bricks (Galeria Vermelho, São Paulo), Brazilian photographer Barbara Wagner s solo show Brasília Teimosa (ICA, London).
Recent publications include The São Paulo Biennial and the Rise of Contemporary Brazilian Art (IN Contemporary Art Brazil, ed. Hossein Amirsadegui and Catherine Petitgas, London: Transglobe,2012) and a chapter on the São Paulo art scene in the forthcoming publication Avant-Gardes of the 21st Century (London: Phaidon, 2013).
Kiki has written extensively on the work of Brazilian artists, including Alexandre da Cunha, Carla Zaccagnini, Erika Verzutti, Marcius Galan, Paulo Nazareth, amongst many others. She has regularly participated in conference and symposia in museums and universities such as Universidad Nacional (Bogotá, Colombia), Royal College of Arts (London, UK) and Tate Modern (London, UK). She is the UK correspondent for the Spanish magazine ArteContexto, member of the CCSP group of external curators and served as a jury member for the Technology Connections Festival promoted by Instituto Sergio Motta (São Paulo, June-July 2008).
