Descripción de la Organización

Y Galleryʼs mission is to represent and support primarily emerging and mid-career artists. Located in New York City, the gallery was founded in 2006 at its first location in Queens. From the beginning we have believed in working hand-in-hand with artists to facilitate their evolution, and in turn the advancement of the gallery, growing together and finding common lines of investigation built upon our curatorial decisions, reflected in our group and solo exhibitions, and in our parallel programs of conferences, lectures, book presentations, performances, and offsite site-specific installations. With a strong focus in Latin American art, our goal is to create a space that builds dialogue among different communities. In 2009 we moved to a second location on The Bowery in Manhattan, spending two years before establishing our current location on Orchard Street, where we have been since 2011. With each move we expand upon our mission and continue to invite international artists who investigate and reflect upon the condition of diversity using all types of media. From its conception, Y Gallery has concentrated on presenting exhibitions, most of them site-specific projects with a cohesive vision. The curatorial stance has been consistent in showing critical discourses with poetic undertones. Highlights from Y Galleryʼs site-specific exhibitions include: "Operativo Part 1" and "Operativo Part 2" by Teresa Margolles (Mexico); "Cosa" by Judi Werthein (Argentina); "No Matter What Happens To You We Will Keep Growing" by Gabriel Acevedo Velarde (Peru); "Transitional" and "The Execution of Maximilian" by G.T. Pellizzi and Ray Smith (Mexico / USA); "Deus Pobre" by Carlos Motta (Colombia); "Borders" by Ryan Brown (USA); "Half Wet" by Norma Markley (USA); "The Real Story of the Super Heroes" by Dulce Pinzon (Mexico); "El Fin" by Christoph Draeger (Switzerland); “Opus 2012” by Juanli Carrión (Spain), “Silencer” by Mauricio Ianês (Brazil), “X” by Bjørn Melhus (Germany) and “Because of Construction” by Alberto Borea (Peru).
