Descripción del Artista
Ad Minoliti makes experimental installations around geometry and abstraction that encompass art history, architecture, queer feminism, childhood, animalism, and speculative fiction. She looks for a non-binary geometry where gender theories are applied to pictorial language using collage and mixed media. Minoliti earned a BFA from the National Academy of Fine Arts Pueyrredón, Argentina. She has been an agent at the Artistic Investigation Center of Argentina since 2009, the same year she founded the group PintorAs, a feminist collective of Argentinian painters. She has won several awards in her home country of Argentina and has received grants from the Ministry of Culture of Argentina, the Metropolitan Fund for the Arts of Buenos Aires, and Mexico’s FONCA Conaculta, among others. Her work has been exhibited at galleries, institutions, and museums in Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, London, San Francisco, Berlin, Paris, Mexico, New York, Japan, Brazil, Peru, Spain, Ireland, Bolivia, Chile, and Austria, among other places. She has participated in the Bienal del Mercosur in Porto Alegre, the Aichi Triennale, the Front Cleveland Triennial, and the 2019 Venice Biennale.
The work of Ad Minoliti is concerned with the relation between eroticism, queer theory, history and geometry; as well as the anthropological importance and social implications of design. For the artist, geometry is the best tool to represent and imagine a trans-human utopia in which gender theories can be applied to the pictorial language, giving way to new possibilities in which we can experiment the visual world. Through a wide variety of mediums and expressions, such as: painting, installation, sculpture, video and fashion, Minoliti aims to debunk fixed ideas about gender through aesthetic confrontation, while commenting on gender conditions, roles and relations.
