Descripción del Artista
Antonio Dias (1944-2018) was a key figure in Brazilian Pop Art and Neo-Figurativism, known for his politically charged works. Influenced by Neoconcretism and Tropicalia, he went into exile in Paris in 1966, where he connected with the Arte Povera movement, shifting his practice towards abstraction. His conceptual approach spanned painting, filmmaking, and artist books, critiquing political oppression and the art system. In the late 1970s, he learned to produce artisanal paper in Nepal, which influenced his later work. By the 1980s, he returned to painting, using metallic pigments and symbolic imagery that echoed his earlier themes.
