Descripción del Artista
Marta Fernández Calvo was born in Logroño (Spain) and has been based in Dublin since 2009. Her work is envolved in the re-wording of built environments. This is done with a variety of methods, external to architectural and artistic traditions. The methods she employs are collaborative, and vary to suit each situation. This engagement and the processes that stem from it, translates into ephemeral interventions in galleries and other public contexts. These interventions are at once socially engaged and participatory.
Calvo has exhibited at the Tate Modern and the Venice Biennale. She has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, Africa, U.K. and Ireland. She is the associate artist for the prestigious 10 Europan winning project, The Red Guide Thread, Nyon, Switzerland. She worked as a researcher in Arts and Philosophy for the Italian Ministry in Venice in 2003. She has been awarded numerous residencies and arts bursaries in Europe and Africa. She was awarded grants from the Spanish Embassy in South Africa in 2010 and 2011. She has been awarded grants from the Spanish Ministry in Madrid, and has won the La Rioja Emerging Artist award on numerous occasions. Her work is in a number of private and public collections in South Africa, Spain and Italy.
